Committees

A group of members that access community need and membership interest on one issue that will show a caring association. The chairman will report back to the Executive Committee a recommendation on pursing this project. The group will also gather community service project information that project members are working on and coordinate that with Alabama Construction News and ABC website. |

Members will assist the ABC Board of Directors on critical issues, special projects, education, membership and other matters. |

ABC in conjunction with other associations supports craft training through the Construction Education Foundation of Alabama (CEFA). Members of this committee will work with ABC assigned board members to ensure craft training needs are addressed through this association. |

Committee members will work with Auburn Students to improve student-member relationships. Students will also visit job sites and be advised on career opportunities in our industry. |

Members will ensure that ABC members and the Merit Shop philosophy of construction are promoted to end-users in all private and public works. |
|
This group of Central Alabama members responds to the needs of members in that area as well as assists staff with educational services, luncheon topics and special events. They also assist the Membership Director in recruitment and retention. |

Committee members will assist the staff in planning, promoting and implementing the following events: Golf Tournaments, Sporting Clay Tournaments, Chili Cook-Off, Fishing Tournament and Convention. They will also be asked to volunteer at various events to help welcome, register and initiate networking among members. |

This committee presents the annual Excellence in Construction awards banquet each year. It also helps in soliciting financial support from other members for funds to help with educational and image enhancement of our industry. |

A group that works on fostering cooperation, communication and understanding between general contractors, subcontractors and supporting industries and to be a forum on behalf of all ABC members. NOTE: There is a waiting list for this committee. |

This outreach committee helps to continue the effort to keep ABC members abreast of Hispanic issues such as safety, communication and legislation. Committee monitors and informs on such topics. |

Committee members of ABC are Alabama’s voice to federal legislative issues important to the industry. This group also works on fund raisers to support ABC National PAC and federal candidates. Committee works to increase membership awareness of the political process and the effects of governmental law-making and rule-making processes on business. This committee will also focus the efforts of the membership on developing and achieving stated political goals. |
Embracing the Hispanic culture is part of ABC's Hispanic Outreach Committee and ensuring workers safety is the goal for the Safety Committee. The two committees joined forces in Linn Park last Saturday to accomplish both these goals. Over 300 people visited the ABC booth. In a partnership with ABC and OSHA, safety materials were given out in English and Spanish. Roberto Sanchez area director of OSHA was on hand to assit with hands on demonstrations of correct safety measures on the job site. Martin Morales of Brasfield & Gorrie was charged with developing the training agenda and Pat Chumbley of LAI Engineering charied the efforts of the Hispanic Outreach Committee. Perhaps the hightlight of the day was seeing all the kids wearing ABC hardhats while their dads received training in fall protection, scaffolding and other focus areas. Roberto Sanchez commented that this joint effort was not only a huge success but much needed in the industry. ABC thanks everyone that helped make the days event a success! |

Promote safety in the workplace, keep ABC members advised of new OSHA regulations, provide safety seminars and provide assessment to ABC members who submit safety questions / concerns to this committee. Participants also are required to assist in publishing the bi-monthly safety e-newsletter and assist with the safety awards program. |

This committee presents the annual Silent Auction that is held during the Excellence in Construction banquet. They are responsible for collecting the items that are bid on as well as volunteering their time to set up the event. |
