2018 Safe Day Awards - June 6, 2018
For Alabama's Construction Industry, safety comes first and it's that idea that brought together companies from around the state for the 14th Annual Safe Day.
Founded to honor companies with outstanding corporate safety and health plans and superior safety initiatives, Safe Day is known as the event that helps bring safety awareness to the forefront of the industry. “It is a known fact that this event not only recognizes excellence in safety, but that it also saves lives,” said ABC of Alabama President Jay Reed. “There are no secrets in safety, and we believe this event will only enhance and highlight the excellent strides the construction industry has made in this arena. As an association, we are committed through our strategic plan to ensure safety was a priority in our strategic plan and to pause and celebrate the fruits of our members’ labor is humbling.”
This year, the event was held on June 7 at the Birmingham Sheraton Hotel. Like last year, Safe Day kicked off with safety seminars—and plenty of time for attendees to network with exhibitors—and then the agenda transitioned into the highlight of the day: the lunch. Bruce Bright served as the day’s keynote speaker, and during the luncheon the Annual Safest in the Industry Awards were presented. Volkert, Inc.’s Corporate Health and Safety Coordinator Steven McGill was awarded Safety Director of the Year.” Among the day’s awards were the Eagle Awards, which were presented to Rives Construction, Brasfield & Gorrie, C.S. Beatty Construction and Thompson Engineering. Numerous Gold Awards and STEP Awards were given out to as well, along with Innovation in Safety Awards, which highlight individual programs companies created and implemented to further their safety efforts. “First and foremost, I want to thank all of the sponsors and ABC of Alabama staff for making the event possible,” said Cody Jackson, safety and environmental manager at Dunn Construction Company. “It is vital that we highlight the importance of safety in our respective industries, and I believe there is no better way than Safe Day. As usual, we had a wonderful crowd with excellent speakers.”
